Tiivra Helmet Review: Prologue – because 13 can be better than lucky…

The Tiivra Helmet is a helmet unlike and other and yet is a product that is made and sold in India. At a time when a cost of a  product goes up in the next iteration, they actually managed to shave off a fair bit. This, done by further improving on what the pilot iteration had on offer.

Coming in at just 1350gms+/- it shaves of a good 200 odd grams from your neck. This allows you to offset that weight from your bluetooth communication system:

  • Be it a rudimentary standalone device or
  • A sophisticated bluetooth intercom system
  • In the rare case that you are a content creator – an action camera
  • you like funky add -ons

Well the list can go on, yet what will stay is the helmet. At the outset Tiivra is a Value for money proposition for those of who do not have any international return friends nor want to risk falling prey to import scams. So at a sub-10,000/- what does it have on offer?

Tiivra Helmet Review:  The Beatdown

To break this down we actually are breaking the review into 3 parts, rather voices. The first two being Artificial Intelligence entities or AI:

  • Gemini
  • ChatGPT

The 3rd being yours truly! So what makes this review different? Rather than doing an AI assist job, which is commonplace. We straight up prompted them and yes as a token of gratitude have given them their due Citation. So lets get right to it…

Tiivra Helmet Review:  Here is what Gemini Had to Say

Public reviews in India paint a generally positive picture of Tiivra helmets, highlighting several key aspects:

 Comfort and Weight:

Riders consistently praise the comfortable fit and lightweight design of Tiivra helmets. The plush padding and reduced neck strain, especially on long rides, are major selling points according to public comments on motorcycle forums and YouTube (excluding influencer reviews).

Ventilation:

Many users endorse the helmet’s airflow due to its multiple vents. This is a significant factor for Indian riders dealing with warm climates.

 Safety:

The high-density composite fiber shell and wide visor are recurring positive mentions in public reviews. Riders feel secure knowing they have a strong helmet protecting them.

Visibility:

Some users on public forums appreciate the bright color options and reflective elements that enhance their visibility on the road, adding an extra layer of safety.

However, public reviews also point to a couple of potential drawbacks:

 Wind Noise:

While ventilation is generally appreciated, some users mention experiencing wind noise at higher speeds. This might be a concern for riders who prefer a quieter ride.

Visor Scratch Resistance:

There are scattered mentions of the visor being susceptible to scratches. This is something to consider, especially for riders who encounter frequent dust or debris.

Tiivra Helmet Review:

It’s important to remember that online reviews can be subjective. To get a well-rounded idea of what Indian riders think about Tiivra helmets, it’s wise to look for a variety of opinions across different platforms. Additionally, for the most up-to-date safety ratings, you should consult accredited Indian organizations like the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).

Tiivra Helmet Review: Human Intervention

The Tiivra Helmet Review is one that is most challenging and this is:

  • Not because it is designed or made in India
  • Yes, indeed this is the most elusive helmet to most media influencers
  • Some have gone the distance to criticize the product
  • Well, criticism or feedback is the bitter tonic sans which growth is impossible
  • Bringing in version 2.0 has flipped the script, be it features or design language

Tiivra Helmet Review: Unboxing the Mystery

The product in review is the Tiivra T1 – Asphalt Grey helmet. Without a doubt there are designs that in true Tiivra language are better and more appealing than the T1 – Asphalt Grey. I chose the T1 – Asphalt Grey for a specific reason. The T1 – Asphalt Grey blends with both of my Mahindra Mojo motorcycle’s colour schemes and at the same time the color scheme has a neutral yet universal appeal from my point of view.

Suffice to say the helmet comes in a helmet box like no other – a vertical opening on the outside and a tray that slides out to reveal the all new helmet draped in a yellow black TIIVRA livery helmet cover. Yes, a shout out to the packaging team for this carefully thought out layered presentation. Since my beloved felines love the tray, it is now their chill zone. I wonder if this was intentional? Well moving on with the review…

Tiivra Helmet Review: The New Ride

While I got the Tiivra Helmet somewhere in August 2024, I patiently waited for the right motorcycle and ride to come my way before even removing the visor protective sticker. Finally, the long wait indeed turned fruitious. Come Boxing Day -26th December 2024, I embarked on ride with the Kaza brown Royal Enfield 450 Himalayan. A Royal Enfield  motorcycle like no other, this beast stood taller than my height of confidence. Taking it on its maiden voyage through the coastal highway and into the meanderings of India’s rich “Coffee Counties” of Belanoor and Chikmagalur needed a comfortable lid. One that stood up against most of the elements and was headache free. From Taking on Christmas holiday traffic and the chills of the evening, the snug fit Double D ring helmet ensured that the ride was “Jingle All The Way”.

Tiivra Helmet Review: The First Light

Kicking off from Canacona the next morning we crossed into Karnataka and halted for breakfast at Murudeshwar. From here on the weather tested the comfort and convenience of the helmet. For starters the in helmet Bluetooth Device fit snuggly and kept me bereft of any discomfort in the Tiivra helmet shell. The air vents ensured that the heat dissipation remained active and the sweat at minimal levels.

With the sun climbing the horizon, it also took its toll on the helmet. The wide view range it without a doubt is best in class. But then again, this also allowed for more sunlight entering the helmet. I am giving it a benefit of doubt given that the motorcycle in question has an upward riding stance and unlike most other users who have motorcycles that have a sport or supersport riding stance with a forward biased seating angle.

Tiivra Helmet Review: The Nelamangala Dash

Indeed most riders settle in for the night and start at first light. But then again, there are creatures who ride when babies sleep at night. Add in the other variables like high beams, low stock lighting coupled by incorrectly set high beam and weather conditions. After an exhilarating ascent to Chikmagalur, it was time to take on the Hassan-Nelamangala stretch post sun set.

While at beginning it was riddled with obstacles of the on-going construction, post 50 kilometres it is as good as it gets. Even with the oddities of the night, the helmet keeps the rider on point without let him loose focus on the road. This made for a 2 stop sprint between the respective tollgates and a hearty dinner before cruising in to Bangalore for the night.

Tiivra Helmet Review: Endurance mode on?

On the way back to Goa, the 600 odd kilometres was spilt by:

  • Riding in the dark,
  • The morning sun and
  • The jungle shade
  • followed by the humidity that welcomed us into Goa.

Taking on the morning with a 230 kilometer no break sprint through varying weather and riding conditions translated into a confidence like never before. Afterall, with a 200 grams lighter helmet you want to ride as many more kilometers. Yes, the day time breeze did share its thoughts with me from time to time.

Tiivra Helmet Review: The Return on investment

So is investing about four thousand rupees more than what you would otherwise for a standard helmet worth it? For starters, Yes. Indeed, the unit is a review one but impressive enough to want to purchase your next Tiivra. So far I haven’t come across a 100% perfect helmet. Yes, the Indian market is a price conscious one. Not just kitna deti hai but more so because some motorcyclists have very humble beginnings too.

In this review I shared the bit of niggles and there’s some room for improvement too. However, as for now I don’t want a heavy hung over head on long rides so I believe I have made my choice. Of course, in the future an iteration with adventure touring form factor would be appreciated though. Yes, We will use a balaclava and see if that makes any difference to the wind blasts.

Tiivra Helmet Review: AI vs HI

Yes, while doing my bit of “homework” I did come across some AI inspired fine works of art talking about the helmet.

  1. But how do you convey what it feels like unless you’ve lets the elements take a swig at the product and apply that directly?
  2. Conversely, sitting in a comfortable chair with a short spin it would be unfair to bring out the drawbacks without actually pushing the limits of what a product is capable of?
  3. Lastly as influencers, do we actually seek a “business justification” before criticizing or praising a product?
  4. All in all, as consumers/buyers one needs to do their due diligence rather fall prey to influence.

Tiivra Helmet Review: To Be or not to be?

The Tiivra Helmet is an attempt to offer lightweight performance helmets to a cost-centric target group. Unlike the stalwarts who have spent decades perfecting the formula till they got it right. This entrepreneurial venture is on the right path with regard to not offering a headache nor extra frills. For a sub 10,000 rupees helmet it is promising to change the game.
